About AOTA

Video Intro Thumbnail

Pete Casey will be following the mighty Amazon river in the most ambitious and intimate way possible: walking, sometimes swimming and probably at times crawling every inch of the Amazon from sea to source, and in the process interacting with its people and its wildlife face to face at ground level.

He will use social media via satellite communications technology to share the adventure with people interested in following the journey across one of the most vast and bio diverse landscapes on Earth.

Getting to the start line

January 29, 2015 by Casey

The journey to reach the start line has been a very long road with many a winding turn. Educational, exciting, expensive, self doubt, exhausting, fun, disappointment, frustration, guilt. Sometimes it feels like an invisible force beyond my control driving me forward, why am I doing this, what’s the point! Well maybe I can answer this … Read more »

October 26, 2014 by Casey

Doing a bit of research and planning before going on a journey is probably a good idea, but with such a vast wealth of information at your fingertips it’s tempting to delve a bit too deep into the wonderland of the Internet, and by the time you re-surface you realise you’ve lost a good few … Read more »

No Piraña here!

September 24, 2014 by Casey

The unusually warm autumnal sun was setting on the horizon, a flock of migrating birds in arrow formation fly above, beyond that a 747 jet is circling approaching Gatwick airport and above that, well, the whole universe I guess. I was half way into a 2K open water swim at Weir Wood reservoir and thinking … Read more »

A flying visit to Peru

June 1, 2014 by Casey

The LAN Peru Airbus A330 flight from Madrid started its decent over the mountainous terrain that surrounds Lima. This flying machine still amazes and excites me, what an incredible piece of engineering, all the raw materials extracted from the earth and woven together by human imagination and ingenuity. My mobile phone automatically switches to the … Read more »

Jungle training with Amazonia Expeditions

May 9, 2014 by Casey

Even though I had previously spent some time in the Brazilian Amazon I still needed to up my confidence in preparation for the immense challenge I had set myself, so in late May 2013 with my trusty credit card to hand I booked an eight-day trip to an Eco lodge in deepest darkest Peru with … Read more »

GPS training in the Lake District

April 12, 2014 by Casey

This was and still is to a certain degree one of my weak points, I’ve not had much experience with map & compass reading or navigation using a handheld GPS unit. Im sure somewhere deep in the unused part of the human brain we have a natural ability for basic navigation, perhaps it lays dormant … Read more »
