FAQs at my talks……..

“What food did you eat during the long jungle crossings”

The base carbs I used across the Amazon were rice and mostly Farinha locally sourced in villages.

When in lockdown the local Indigenous taught me how to make this high-energy food, from harvesting the cassava to the finished dried golden grainy superfood.

The video shows two Indigenous Kapanawa skillfully drying it in the final process.

In a completely random order.

The Tapiche river, a tributary of the Ucayali.
This is where I was stranded for 7 months due to COVID lockdowns in 2020.

I ended up getting to know the indigenous Kapanawa people.
I helped plant & harvest crops also learned how to construct a traditional house.

Looking forward to speaking about my little trek at the @worldextrememedicine conference in Edinburgh. 16th - 18th November 2024.

How I managed to avoid any serious accidents, snake bites, heat exhaustion, or tropical diseases on the expedition. (During the Q&As)

Maybe I should get a post-expedition blood checkup whilst there? as I haven’t seen a doctor in 9 years! 😂

The water vine in the Amazon.

Raul (video) walked with us for a day and knew the exact vine that contained pure clean drinking water.

This was never needed during my expedition but it was good to learn about various survival hacks from the locals I walked with.

The summit Nevado Mismi, Andes Peru.

The furthest source mountain (uninterrupted flow) of the mightiest river on earth - The Amazon.

On that day I was honored to be accompanied to the summit by world record-holder Piotr Chmielinski and a few others.

18,363 ft ASL

Rio Jutai Brazil.

During a 430 Kilometer very remote pure jungle trek, inland away from the main Amazon river we had several big rivers to cross.
When we arrived at the Rio Jutai tributary the opposite bank was inundated with deep water many kilometers inland.
My topographical map indicated a tiny village and higher ground 22 kilometers downriver.
So I had to do a 22km swim downriver to reach that point with a canoe escort borrowed from small house.
You can hear the chorus of animals including the roar of Howler Monkeys 🐒 in the forest as I swam.

The people in the tiny village were amazingly helpful, we stayed with them to re-supply and re-charge for a week.

This was during the arduous 17 day crossing of remote jungle to finally escape being locked down in late 2020.
Here I’m walking with indigenous Kapanawa Pizarro.

We never met any other people.

We were sooooo happy to find clear flowing water like this after crossing the Cordilla Azul mountain range.

When your dehydrated your mind can only focus on finding water.
I still added a chlorine drop for health security plus some dry orange juice powder we carried.

No 9 - Indigenous Asháninka village in the Peruvian rainforest.

This is the home village of the supreme president of the Asháninka people who selflessly helped me find a an Asháninka native to accompany me through their fiercely protective territory along the banks of the Rio Tambo, Rio Ene and Rio Apurímac.

These connected rivers lead to the source mountain of the Amazon River.
