About AOTA

Video Intro Thumbnail

Duncan Casey will be following the mighty Amazon river in the most ambitious and intimate way possible: walking, sometimes swimming and probably at times crawling every inch of the Amazon from sea to source, and in the process interacting with its people and its wildlife face to face at ground level.

He will use social media via satellite communications technology to share the adventure with people interested in following the journey across one of the most vast and bio diverse landscapes on Earth.

Buffalo, a fiesta and a walk

December 20, 2015 by Duncan

The small fishing community of Pesqueiro basically kind-napped me from the little hotel and insisted I stayed with them for free. What amazing and generous people. They were also having their annual festival at the weekend, and asked me to stay. I was planning to walk again, but how could I possibly turn down their offer? … Read more »

Against the tide

December 11, 2015 by Duncan

The tide was coming in rapidly. We were a about a kilometre off shore, up to our necks, crossing an estuary. My feet were sinking into the sandbed beneath me with every step, and I felt that if I stopped walking I would sink for sure. I could also see what looked like clear blue … Read more »

Inn at the deep end

December 8, 2015 by Duncan

I’m currently in recovery mode at a little hotel in a town called Soure, but a few days ago I was standing at the most easterly point of Marajó island on the Brazilian coastline, where the world’s biggest river by far, the mighty Amazon, meets and merges with the vast expanse of the Atlantic Ocean. … Read more »

The river sea

December 3, 2015 by Duncan

“el rio mar” Its been an eventful last few days to say the least, and a great feeling to finally arrive at a place I’ve been looking at on Google Earth for the past few years. After spending a few days in Belem sorting out last minute purchases, getting to know a few of … Read more »
